King Arthur 2: The Role-playing Game

In war-torn Britain and King Arthur in a precarious state of health, Paradox and Neocore Games are proposing to erect a new empire with diplomacy, management and iron hand. After a long wait, the series returns to the market that best combines strategy and role.
After the pleasant surprise that marked the premiere of King Arthur: The Role-Playing Wargame for the PC, we really wanted to get their hands on its sequel. Once in our hands, we can state that does not disappoint at all in terms of gameplay, expanding the options roleras, improving gameplay during battles in real time, and with a notable increase in the number and variety of combat units get differentiate you from other products similar cut. In addition, this work of Paradox and Neocore Games is one of the few who can claim to combine, as no two gaming experiences as diverse as the strategy and the role with fantastic results. Aspects that make this King Arthur 2 on one of the most interesting games with that brand new year, although not without flaws that make you lose, at least for now, a few points.

The legacy of King Arthur
The story of King Arthur 2 puts us in the shoes of William Knight Pendragon, which to the poor health of King Arthur will embark on a new crusade across Britain with the intention to heal, to unite the land under his command, and away with the dark forces of evil who have risen from the shadows. A story full of intrigue, betrayal and epic situations will be marked by our decisions. And is that as in the original, the style remains the adventures of conversational role in developing much of the story, expanding in this case the number of options that tell so much so that sometimes will be very difficult to choose one or the other. Especially since most decisions will have consequences on the money you can win or lose during the talk, the possibility to increase or decrease the number of troops under our command, the type of morality that will develop our hero, and even how we see the various factions that populate Britain.

The most important thing is that most of these conversations never know what might be the consequences of our actions, which in terms roleros is amazing because he can completely immersed in the story that tells us. And the importance of this aspect is such that, based on our actions, we can avoid conflict, enmity granjearnos a hitherto allied faction, and even get new types of combat units and artifacts that increase our power.

The gamer component is also present in the figure of the heroes, who like other troops under his command will improve gradually level. In this case, the choices that we are not excessively high, but we have some freedom to decide which aspects can improve each and every one of our troops-including the hero, the special abilities that define them and even in the case of the heroes, their equipment.

King Arthur II: The Role - Playing Wargame
Before diving into the adventures of King Arthur and his knights, we shall play a prologue featuring the Romans.

Lift up your swords!
Most of the action in King Arthur 2 takes place in the great island of Britain on which we move through a classic turn-based system. But as the original, this title takes the basis of the popular Total War to present also a number of real-time battles featuring armies comprised of thousands of combatants. In these cases, the options that we will be the standard in the genre: big squads of soldiers of all kinds-including mystical creatures, which we combine efficiently, with the possibility of using different battle formations. In this sense, the topography of the scenarios again play a central role, with the possibility of acquiring a clear tactical advantage if our troops attacking from the overhead or protect themselves from enemy fire under the trees in a forest.

To all this we must add the magical element of the universe King Arthur, with a heroic figure who can run various special attacks, plus we can use us out of the conflict if we have conquered some of the strategic points of the stage. However, it is important to note that this time the heroes are not so decisive in battle, or at least during the early stages of the adventure. Mainly because there is now a kind of magical shield that will protect our troops and the enemies of any such attack, unless, of course, that barrier is broken constantly attacking. From that moment, and if not restored, any magical damage will have immediate effects on the soldiers. So now new factors come into play getting the battles are more strategic than the original, without turning the heroes into killing machines, are good and provide plenty of bonuses, but nothing else-but forcing players to find that tactical advantage steadily.

There are three types of figures based on the classic heroic warrior, the born leader and expert in magic. Depending on our response to the start of the game to take the role either.

Even yet the result is still quite far from that seen in the Total War series, and this despite the fact that King Arthur has the added brand new air units, which are a real pain-in a good sense of the word, and also present other of massive proportions that will leave us speechless. But as we say, the battles never develop with the ease and naturalness as seen in the work of The Creative Assembly, although this time the enemy AI tends to respond efficiently with tactics that will even surprise us (try to flanquearnos not tend to abandon positions that are favorable, etc..), and magic gives a touch of tension to the items that we really like. For example, we are longing for a more credible morale among the troops, now known as Will to arms, even in situations that are clearly unfavorable keep fighting like that. Details that do not break with the essence of the game would have given even more excitement to these battles that despite the above, are still very fun and strategic.

The kingdom in your hands
Perhaps the most changes have been in this sequel we find in the management section of our empire, which has been softened compared to the original. Thus, for example, has been eliminated resource management to let us only with gold as unique currency. Similarly, if we talk about the tech tree, this now allows us to activate all your options more easily, since it has opted for a number of points accumulated, the Lore, that do not fade with use, thus eliminating the strategic element decide what improvements bet over others.

In each of our provinces we can build various structures that will offer one or the other bonuses depending on the chosen path. Improvements will only have effect on our troops if they are in that province. Similarly, although the theme of family relationships is not as developed as in other games, our heroes can get married to get special attributes, the same way that has enhanced the market for these magical artifacts play a greater role in the games. So much so, that we even make the option of combining the unique artifacts that we found during our travels.
